Early Childhood
Fernanda Fuga discovered Waldorf education in 2009 when looking for a preschool for her children; today, they are both graduates of Marin Waldorf School and current students at San Francisco Waldorf High School. In 2013, while completing her training at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training, Fernanda began working in the Marin Waldorf School preschool and kindergarten classrooms as a substitute teacher. She then took the full-time assistant teacher position in the Buttercup class for three years before becoming the Buttercup lead teacher in 2021. Fernanda grew up in São Paulo, Brazil where she earned a degree in Business and Languages at Faculdade de Tecnologia de Sao Paulo. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and also speaks some French. She enjoys crafting, trail running, and going to the beach with her family.

Lisa O’Callaghan has been the lead teacher in the Sunflower preschool since 2021, and a member of the Marin Waldorf School faculty since 2012, where she has held various roles, including lead kindergarten aftercare teacher, parent-child assistant teacher, summer camp coordinator, and kindergarten assistant teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and education from UC Davis, and she completed the Lifeways Training in Curative Education with Robyn Brown. She served on the Board of Trustees at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training for three years and is an active member and former chair of our school’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging Committee. She found Marin Waldorf School through a parenting course with master teacher Karen Rivers while her son was in preschool. Lisa was born in San Francisco and grew up in Marin County, and she loves singing, music, hiking, nature, dance, swimming, and spending time with family.

Lisa O’ Callaghan
Sarah Whitmore is a seasoned Waldorf educator with more than 25 years of teaching experience. She began her teaching journey at Árbol de la Vida in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and completed the four-year teacher training program at Rudolf Steiner College. She later led a bilingual kindergarten class at Summerfield Waldorf School for eleven years before joining Marin Waldorf School, where she served as a lead teacher in the early childhood program from 2017–2022. Her kindergarten and early childhood classes are Spanish-infused or bilingual, reflecting her love of Spanish language and latinx cultures. During her time at Marin Waldorf School, she also served as College Chair and helped shape faculty initiatives focused on nurturing a culture of belonging, human dignity and mutual respect. In 2021, Sarah and her husband spent two years at Portland Waldorf School before returning to Marin Waldorf School, where she served as Grades Director in 2023–2024. Sarah has a deep love for storytelling and the arts, and delights in bringing language, imagination, and cultural traditions to life for children. Outside the classroom she enjoys artistic practice, hiking in the beautiful landscapes of Northern California, and time with her husband and children.

Sarah Whitmore
Kimi Keating began her career in education as an assistant teacher in first, third, and sixth grade classrooms in Mill Valley public schools. Her lifelong love of the arts and humanities brought her to Waldorf education, and she completed her three-year teacher training program through Rudolf Steiner College. After graduating from RSC in 1999, she apprenticed for two years at the San Francisco Waldorf School before taking a lead teaching position at Songbird's Nest in Forest Knolls. From the next 19 years, she was a lead teacher for a mixed-age preschool-kindergarten class at Marin Mountain School in Corte Madera. She taught with Earthwise Education’s Forest Friends outdoor program at the Lake Lagunitas Watershed, then joined Marin Waldorf School’s staff in 2022 as a lead teacher in the Hollyhock classroom. Kimi holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from San Francisco State University.

Kimi Keating
Since joining our faculty in 2013, Rod DeRienzo has held multiple roles, including grades aftercare lead teacher, early childhood and grades substitute teacher, and kindergarten assistant teacher. He holds a bachelor of arts in medieval history from the University of Chicago, and he graduated from the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training program in 2016. Before joining the faculty at MWS, Rod worked as corporate moving and logistics manager, at the Department of State, and as a grades teacher at Heartwood Charter School in Fairfax. He is an eagle scout, a Dungeons and Dragons aficionado, and a beach lover.

Paula first worked at Marin Waldorf School in 1995 and has been working with preschool and kindergarten children using Waldorf curriculum for 30 years. She has Early Childhood Education units from College of Marin and completed her Waldorf Teacher Training in 1997. She has worked with parent-toddler programs, preschool, kindergarten, first and second grades, aftercare programs, and summer camps. She loves life itself, the great outdoors, and music. MWS is like home away from home.

Paula Sanders
Joanna Filgueiras is currently a student in the teacher training program at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training. She holds an undergraduate degree in social science from the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil, and a masters in translation studies from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil. Joanna loves to move and spend time outside, hiking, dancing tango, surfing, doing yoga, and practicing martial arts like capoeira, aikido, iaido.

Since completing her teacher training at the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California, in 1991, Rosanna has worked in a wide variety of teaching roles and learning environments, including large Waldorf classrooms, small homeschool pods, farms, and in fields and forests. Experienced with both preschool- and kindergarten-age students, Rosanna delights in kindling and engaging the imaginations of young children through puppetry, poetry, storytelling, and dramatic play. In addition to extensive Waldorf and early childhood education training, Rosanna holds a natural chef certification from Bautman College in Penngrove.

Rita Dale holds a BA in education from St. Petersburg State Pedagogical University in Russia, where her major was teaching foreign languages. For the past 20 years, she has worked with young children in various settings, including at the Osher Marin JCC ECE Preschool and Little Learners Academy in San Rafael. She completed a professional development certification in methodology and education at Stanford University, and she is a Certified Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner and Clinical Hypnotherapist. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Rita and her husband have lived for more than 30 years in Marin County, where they raised their three children, now adults. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, singing, neurographic art, reading, traveling, cooking and gardening. She speaks Russian and English, as well as conversational German and Swedish.

Jessica Williams is a mother of four and a dedicated member of the Marin Waldorf community since 2019. Her children have been educated in Waldorf schools since preschool, and Jessica recently completed the Lifeways Early Childhood training. She holds a BA from Lewis and Clark College in Painting and is certified as an experienced yoga teacher holding over 1000 hours worth of training. She has owned Sonoma Yoga, a thriving movement studio, for the past four years.
A seasoned yoga teacher, Jessica offers classes for students of all ages including prenatal/postnatal care, restorative, yin, foundations, and flow. She weaves movement, breath, and artistic practice into her teaching to support children’s emotional resilience and holistic well-being.
Jessica participated in Waldorf-based parent toddler classes with all her children and loves how these sessions brought more purposeful time together. She is so thrilled to be leading these classes.
When she’s not teaching, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her children, spending time in Tahoe, gardening, and cooking with her family.

Jessica Williams
Elementary School (1-5)
Katie Heneghan joined Marin Waldorf School’s faculty as first grade assistant teacher in the fall of 2022, and she took the role of 1st grade class teacher the following year. Before joining our faculty, she worked as a nature connection mentor, facilitated health programming in middle and high schools, taught at a performing arts school, and served as a counselor at a wilderness therapy program. Ms. Heneghan holds a bachelor of arts in theater from Whitman College and a master’s in public health specializing in community health education from the University of Minnesota. She completed a 10-month nature connection and social justice immersion with Weaving Earth Center for Relational Education in Sonoma County. She graduated from the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training in 2023. When Ms. Heneghan is not busy teaching, she enjoys spending time outside birding and tracking wildlife, swimming, handcrafting, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing music, traveling near and far, and coming home to her cat, Green Bean.

A native of the Netherlands, Marieke Duijneveld attended Waldorf schools from preschool through 12th grade before pursuing a bachelor's degree in social work at Hogeschool Rotterdam en Omstreken. She completed her Waldorf teacher training at Freie Hochschule in Stuttgart, Germany, and later a birth-to-three training at Sophias Hearth, in Keene, New Hampshire. She previously taught at a Waldorf school Reutlingen, Germany, and at Green Meadow Waldorf School in New York State. Marieke is a certified Simplicity Parenting coach, and she is currently enrolled in "Nurturing the Roots,” an advanced therapeutic course for early childhood educators. She sings in the Marin Symphony Choir and loves hiking and backpacking with her family.

Enrique Paredes completed his Waldorf teacher training at the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California, after which he worked at the Cuernavaca Waldorf School in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where he led a class from 1st to 6th grade and served as chair of the College of Teachers for three years. He joined the Austin Waldorf School in 2004, where he took a class from 2nd to 6th grade, and his current class from 1st to 8th grade; after his students will graduate this spring, Enrique will relocate to California to join our faculty. Additionally, he is a co-founder, along with his wife, of Banyan Forest Kindergarten, a Waldorf initiative in Austin. Enrique has a degree in Early Childhood Education from the Centro Nacional para la Educación Superior (CENEVAL) in Mexico and a BA in Education Equivalency from the University of Columbia.

Since joining the staff at Marin Waldorf School in 2012, Jennifer McKinley has held a wide variety of of roles at our school, including as an assistant teacher in both our Parent Toddler and kindergarten programs. Jennifer is enrolled in the Waldorf teacher training program at the West Coast Institute in Vancouver, Canada, and she has also completed trainings with Lifeways and BACWTT (Foundation Studies). She double majored in creative writing and art practice at UC Davis, and held a wide range of jobs before she began teaching, including semi-truck driver, wilderness guide, and organic farmer, to name a few. Jennifer loves being in and on the ocean, playing with her family, being outdoors, making things, food in general, travel, reading, and working in her garden.

Mia Terziev joined the Marin Waldorf School faculty in 2013, and she led the class of 2022 from 2nd grade to 8th grade. After their graduation, she took the role of lead teacher for the Class of 2030. Before joining our faculty, Ms. Terzeiv held diverse roles as a portrait photographer, a full-time mom, a birth doula, the owner of a small business making organic cotton baby clothes, and matchmaker. She holds a bachelor's degree in French and photography from San Francisco State University and completed the Waldorf teacher training program at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training. She has two children with her husband, Jasper, and she loves singing, gardening, hiking, and anything to do with interior decorating.

Middle School (6-8)
Rising Percey led the Marin Waldorf School class of 2020 from 5th grade to graduation, then returned to the 5th grade classroom in the fall of 2020 to lead the class of 2024. Before becoming a Waldorf teacher, Ms. Percey was the director of an adult literacy center in Honolulu, later returning to the Bay Area to teach literature and writing to middle and high school students at SAT prep centers throughout the Bay Area. She holds a BA in English literature and creative writing from UC Berkeley and she completed her Waldorf training at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training. Ms. Percey comes from a family of educators: Her grandmother was the director of Chidren’s Fairyland in Oakland, her mother ran an in-home daycare for 38 years, and her sister is a teacher to the visually impaired. Ms. Percey was drawn to Waldorf Education because it reflects her core values: a strong sense of community, personal responsibility, and spirituality. She enjoys spending time outdoors, and being with her family and friends.

Roland Baril has more than 30 years of experience in teaching and leadership roles at Waldorf schools in New York and Northern California, including as a class teacher at Greenwood School in Mill Valley, where he also served as the dean of education. Additionally, Mr. Baril was the Leadership Council Representative for the Mid-Atlantic Region Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) from 2002 to 2007. He graduated magna cum laude from Sonoma State University with a degree in history and received a masters in Waldorf education from Sunbridge College in New York. In 2005, he completed a 5-year training in spatial dynamics and movement education. Mr. Baril lives with his wife, Michele, in Sonoma County. In addition to teaching, he is the front man for a local outlaw country band, and he enjoys motorcycle tours, sports, traveling, cooking, horses, and spending time with his two sons, who both attended Waldorf schools from preschool to 12th grade.

Roland Baril
Jenna grew up in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, an hour east of the bay. With a love for the natural world and social justice, she majored in environmental studies and bioethics at Loyola University Chicago where she delved into the natural sciences and the ethical questions surrounding them. She has spent the majority of her adult life split between the Skagit River Valley of Washington and the high alpine desert of rural Colorado. Her love for teaching began at a Waldorf-inspired school, where she conducted her student teaching before becoming a full-time grades teacher. She particularly loves bringing her love for science to life in and out of the classroom through observations, experiments, and STEM activities. She is currently earning a Masters in Education at Western Colorado University and completing the year with her 8th grade class. She is excited to come home to California with her joy-loving heeler and integrate into the beautiful Marin Waldorf community.

Greer Lanzet-Ourian has over a decade of teaching experience in New York City and the Bay Area. Most recently she served as an integral member of the Teaching and Learning Support Team, Instructional Coach and educator of students with diverse neurological profiles at Charles Armstrong School, a school cited as one of the best schools specializing in teaching students with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia. She is a Wilson Certified Practitioner and Fundations Presenter who sees it as her mission to bring structured literacy to children everywhere. Greer has a passion for making learning joyfully accessible to everyone. She received her Master's in the Art of Teaching from Manhattanville College. She loves spending time with her husband and their two children exploring nature and making music.

Greer Lanzet-Ourian
Julia McIlroy joined the MWS faculty after 14 years as a public defender and appellate attorney in Sonoma County. Prior to law school, she taught math to struggling upper grades and high school student at Summerfield Waldorf School. After becoming an attorney, she stayed connected to teaching as an adjunct professor for advanced legal writing at Empire College and as head coach for Mock Trial at San Rafael High School. She holds a BA with honors from Mills College in Oakland and graduated magna cum laude with a juris doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, with a certificate in law and social justice. Ms. McIlroy is a graduate of Summerfield Waldorf School, which she attended from kindergarten to 12th grade, and her two children currently attend MWS. She loves cooking, hiking, swimming, and travel.

Julia McIlroy
Musician and music teacher Miranda Mallard joined the Marin Waldorf School faculty in 2019. Before joining our team, she taught 2nd-8th grade general music and voice at Convent Elementary School in San Francisco; kindergarten-12th grade general music, band, and songwriting at Maharishi School in Iowa; 4th-5th band in the Miller Creek School District, and folk music classes for babies and toddlers with Little Folkies, in addition to teaching a variety of after-school music and dance programs, choirs, and private lessons. Ms. Mallard holds a bachelor of music in voice and a bachelor of arts in dance from the University of Iowa. She performed for years as a soloist and choral member with the Marin Symphony Choir and Chamber Choir, as well as other early music ensembles, and she wrote, recorded, and toured with her harmony-focused bands Rock Paper Scissors and Dagmar. She just released her first solo album, and she loves to do yoga, dance, and go adventuring with her son, Eli.

Miranda Mallard
A professional cellist, composer, and music educator, Michael Fecskes performs widely in the Bay Area and beyond. In addition to leading the MWS strings program, he is a music instructor and the Artistic Director at ViVO Youth Orchestras in Sonoma County, a youth development organization that provides free instruments and music instruction to over 80 Sonoma students each school year. He formerly taught strings and served as music program director at Live Oak Charter School in Petaluma. His compositions are influenced by his Hungarian/Caribbean heritage, written with the intent to inspire the contemporary mind, body and soul.

Isabel Dow joined Marin Waldorf School in the fall of 2023 as the lower grades handwork teacher. Previously, she worked for six years as an aftercare teacher and later a handwork assistant in the grades program at San Francisco Waldorf School. Before completing her teacher training at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training, Isabel completed a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, with a focus in social justice, at San Francisco State University, where she was also the director of the student-run art gallery on campus.

Loreto Orellana-Jabre received an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a masters degree in education at the Universidad de las Americas in Santiago, Chile, and completed her Waldorf teacher training at the Centro Antroposófico in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She was previously a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln International Academy, in Chicureo, Chile, a Spanish and early childhood teacher at San Francisco Waldorf School, and a preschool teacher North bay Home School Collective. She loves crafting, making handmade jewelry, playing instruments, road trips and walks.

Loreto Orellana-Jabre
Born and raised in Taiwan, Diana Liu taught in a Waldorf kindergarten and later in grades 1 to 5 in Taiwan before moving to the United States with her family. Her daughter enrolled in Marin Waldorf School in 2022 and Diana joined our faculty the following year as a Mandarin teacher. She holds an undergraduate degree in social work and child welfare at Providence University and received her Waldorf teacher certification at Taichung Anthroposophie Association. She loves knitting and hiking.

Diana Liu
Before joining Marin Waldorf School’s faculty in 2023, Malcolm Pearce worked with The Mosaic Project in Oakland, a nonprofit organization that aims to create young peacemakers in an ever-challenging world. He previously attended Arizona State University while gaining his first pilot’s license at the Airline Transport Professional School of Aviation. He enjoys flying planes, athletics, and playing his bass guitar.

Malcolm Pearce
Karen Gallagher graduated from Eurythmy Spring Valley, New York, and obtained a bachelor’s degree through the eurythmy school in Oslo, Norway. In addition to eurythmy, she has 30 years of classroom experience in a variety of subjects, including Spanish, choir, theater, and life skills. Karen currently resides in Point Richmond, California, and serves part-time on the faculty at Marin Waldorf School. For ten years she supported the Waldorf teacher training program at the Center for Anthroposophical Development in Cuernavaca, Mexico and is pleased to teach eurythmy to all cohorts at BACWTT. A member of the Eurythmy Association of North America, Karen serves on the Council as Northern California regional representative.

Ashley Merrill is a regenerative farmer with a background in midwifery. Through diverse projects in agriculture and gardening, Ashley cultivates thriving gardens centered in stewardship for the Earth and facilitates experiences that nurture curiosity, sensory awareness, and reverence for nature. She holds a BA cum laude in studio art from Lewis & Clark College and completed the program in Academic and Clinical Midwifery at Maternidad La Luz in El Paso, Texas. Currently, Ashley works as a farmer and florist at Point Reyes Flowers in Point Reyes Station, where she participates in all stages of regenerative flower, vegetable, and orchard production from seed to harvest.

Ashley Merrill
Tia brings 25 years of experience teaching yoga and offering bodywork and somatic therapy at retreats throughout Europe and Asia to her role teaching Games, Gym, and Movement at Marin Waldorf. She joined the Marin Waldorf community in 2018 as a parent, later serving as a substitute teacher and parent-toddler assistant. Tia completed her Waldorf teacher training through the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training and is currently taking a three-year Spatial Dynamics training. She is delighted to bring together her passions for movement, nature, and nurturing children in this work. Outside of teaching, Tia loves spending time with her two children, dancing, traveling, and being outdoors as much as possible.

Rob brings over 20 years of experience as a Waldorf class teacher and naturalist to our aftercare program. His goal is to inspire in every child an excitement for learning, a sense of wonder and respect for each other and our environment. Rob completed his Waldorf teacher training at Sunbridge College and worked as a class teacher before opening The Garden School, a Waldorf-inspired preschool program, with his wife. He is the director of beloved outdoor adventure camp Orca Camp and coaches high school tennis. Rob is a father of two wonderful daughters, and he loves woodworking, gardening, singing and all kinds of music.

Lenya Bloom previously served as High School Director at San Francisco Waldorf School and co-founded Escuela Raíces Waldorf Initiative in Puebla, México. She holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and BUAP, Waldorf leadership training through the Center for Anthroposophy, and a school leadership certification from Harvard. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Lenya Bloom
Dawn Anderson has extensive experience managing business operations for education institutions and organizations. She has worked to promote educational equity, cultural exchanges for youth from around the globe and leadership development for high school students. Dawn has also served as an officer to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and worked in the district office of the Cambridge Public Schools in Massachusetts. Outside of work, Dawn has competed in triathlons and national championships in sailing. She holds an undergraduate degree from Boston University. She enjoys travel, volunteering in the community and creating delicious meals for family and friends.

Kate joined the Marin Waldorf School administrative team with years of experience in nonprofit organizations. As an experienced fundraiser and development professional, she is a skilled at building relationships and stewarding people through a decision-making process—skills she will bring to the role of Admissions Director. Kate joins our school after more than 5 years in her current role as Development Director at Grassroots Ecology, where she led fundraising strategy. She holds a bachelors of science in Community and Regional Development from the University of California, and a master of science in Bioregional Planning and Community Design from the University of Idaho, with an emphasis in Community Food Systems Planning. She currently teaches yoga in Marin County and enjoys trail running, gardening, and camping with her family. As admissions director, Kate brings "a deep commitment to bolstering diversity, growing community and sharing the impact of a Waldorf education on young people as both current students and upon graduation when they go out into the world as kind, creative, capable young adults."

Wing Choi joined MWS in 2023 after relocating from Hong Kong to the Bay Area with her family in 2022. Her son began 1st grade at our school the same year. With over 15 years of executive experience in the financial services industry, including roles at Banco Santander S.A. and J.P. Morgan, Wing brings a wealth of knowledge to our community. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting at Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2023, she began her Waldorf Teacher Training at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training, further deepening her connection to our educational philosophy.

After 20 years leading creative teams in film production and crafting national advertising campaigns from concept to delivery, Mike is excited to bring his skills in branding, marketing, communications, and strategic vision to MWS. Mike and his family joined the Marin Waldorf School community from Pasadena Waldorf School, where Mike chaired the Parent Council and developed a love and facility for event planning, fundraising, public speaking, volunteer organizing, and community engagement. Whether he’s leading an event, designing a website, obsessing over grammar, or negotiating with a vendor, the dynamic nature of working at Marin Waldorf School makes him feel right at home.

Suzanne Hudson joined the staff at Marin Waldorf School in 2019 as a project manager, but her history with the school began when her children were students in the class of 2012 and the class of 2015. Before joining the team at MWS, Suzanne held diverse professional roles, from advertising account executive to high school swim coach. She received an undergraduate degree in English literature at the University of Colorado. In her free time, Suzanne loves skiing, hiking, reading, and—most of all—spending time with her family.

Eylem brings a thoughtful blend of Waldorf early‑childhood experience and strong operational skills to Marin Waldorf School. She has supported nursery and kindergarten classrooms with warmth, steady organization, and a deep respect for play‑based learning. Her background includes administrative coordination at a Waldorf nursery, where she partnered with school leadership on curriculum planning, community events, and daily operations.
Earlier in her career, she worked in high‑tech marketing, developing reporting and workflow skills that support her work in schools today. She holds an MBA in International Marketing and a BA in Public Relations and Communication.
