May Faire and Grandparents Day

The earliest May Day Celebrations were to honor the changing of the seasons, from darkness into light, and that a tree, the symbol of the "tree of life" and of the great strength and vitality of Nature, was used in the ritual. The May Faire is a joyful, colorful festival of spring. The celebration comes with the promise of rebirth - the renewed life of the soul.

Winter Spiral

The Winter Spiral is a seasonal tradition at Marin Waldorf School, held in early December, a few weeks before the winter solstice. A celebration of the light that will return to earth as the seasons change and a moment to connect with our own inner light, the Winter Spiral seeks to inspire deep reflection and human warmth during the cold, quiet days of winter.

Michaelmas

Michaelmas is a traditional Walforf celebration of inner light, courage, and community. At Marin Waldorf School, we come together to celebrate the autumn season, feel the warmth of our community, and kindle our inner light at the annual Michaelmas festival. As the first festival of the school year, Michaelmas recounts the story of Saint George and the battle between the archangel Michael and a dragon. Through songs and verses, the children introduce us to the story, playing the roles of  farmers and blacksmiths of the village, brave knights, and the dragon.

At this turning point in the year, the moment between midsummer and the winter solstice, we can look up to a being who stands for inner light and inner warmth, for inner forces of the soul that cannot be affected by the dark and cold outside,” writes second grade teacher Mia Terziev about the meaning of Michaelmas.

Parents, alumni, and our extended community is encouraged to join us in the audience on Friday, September 29, at 2pm, for the Michaelmas Pageant in the Marin Waldorf School oak grove.
